This was a freelance project for Ra's agency of record at the time. Ra has enjoyed some great success however, their bar business was declining. The strategy was to tell young business professionals to keep coming for great sushi and to make the evening an even greater success by having a cocktail or 4 at the bar. It was a happy accident that to discover this art style that was prominent in Japanese youth culture. It was a perfect vehicle to help communicate RA's story in a fun and culturally relevant way. We told the audience to, "Come for the sushi. Stay for the stories." And, oh by the way, the bar is open until 1am. Full disclosure—the last I heard was the agency loved it and the idea was presented and well-received. I don't know what happened after that. This idea was too good not to share. Perhaps one day I'll see this idea running free like a Japanese snow monkey named Akira. And I'll look on with pride and say, "Run, Akira the snow monkey. Run."
